sounds good! (p.3)
it matters more how it sounded, but this is how it looked: (stock photo)
turning on to newport coast drive, and before i got to pelican hill archway of excess on the left, i was taken by the stunning lines of a black jaguar F-type R convertible along side me. as he accelerated away from the light, the pops and growls of his exhaust were high-DB music to my ears. as we wound up and thru the newport coast, i stayed as close as i could so i could enjoy the music through my open windows. at the light in front of sage high school i finally pulled up next to the source of the song. the cat was captained by a skipper-esque (think gilligan’s island) looking gentleman and the woman in the passenger seat who was along for a wonderful sunday drive. i made eye contact and said, “sounds great!” at the moment the light turned green. triggered like a cue from the director, the cat roared full-throttle away from the intersection. wow. wow. and before it got even a car length ahead, out from the open top popped an enthusiastic thumbs-up from the passenger who was certainly enjoying the ride.
p.s. a big reason i didn’t make every effort to attend the COTA austin F1 race this year is that the cars just don’t sound right, and this little experience with a cat that roared reminded me just how important the aural experience is to driving.
